“Almost Single” The Book by Advaita Kala

To start with this is a girly book, but that doesn’t mean that boys cannot read this. It is a girly book, so definitely girls are going to like it. As for the boys – if you want to start a career like what Will Smith did in Hitch or Salman Khan did in partner for living, then this book is a good starting point. You will know a lot about what women thinks and why they do what they do.

‘Almost Single’ give you more insight into the world of single women and that too nearing thirties. There are some interesting facts about relationships as well in the book – like at one instance the lead character describes that the divorced men marrying for second time try harder to succeed the marriage second time, so marrying a divorced men is always good.

    Dear Advaita

I have not read the complete book yet..but have read a preview about your book, published in one of the newspapers in Gulf.. Arab News…

It is very interesting title and the area of your research work and writing about a topic which is very common but need courage to write about it…

I wish you all the best.

    Advaita,
Loved the book! Very witty way of portraying such a serious subject!

Loved the messy, funny, judgemental Aisha!

One of the many nice moments – the comment while Aisha was in the train to Nashik – that she never ever felt “lonely” even though she was not married and was thirty and was very often given to bitchin about it! – Great way of pointing out the advantages of getting to know yourself!!

    Dear Advaita,

For one thing, I related 200% to the book. I could a mirror image of myself there… for your reference, I recently left Delhi after spending good amount of time there… and having moved to a new setup for career (really career, and not a job that i hate ;-) ), i had to face the phase of loneliness and boredom, and “Almost Single” came in really handy at this time. It was as if I found a friend in it. During work hours, I would wait to get home and get back to my buddy :-)
and the fact is that though its really a one-sitting book, I purposely took it slow, as I didn’t want to end it!!!!!
Loved the book, and related 200% to it, to the extent that I happen to know personally some people you named in the acknowledgements :-)
    Cheers,
    way to go…
Look forward to knowing more about you…
    Love,
    Anisha

I really liked this book. Being single, in my early thirties, of a large frame, with gay and divorced friends, I so identified with this book :-)

    Advaita,

Almost Single reflects the lives of the 21st Century women who are happy with their careers but deprived in their relationships. It has both humour and facts to chew on. Awesome book, indeed!

    Hey Advaita
I just finished your book last night. I absolutely love the chemistry between Aisha and Karan. I admire her loyalty to her friends. Also I think every desi girl can relate to her relationship with her mother and the struggles of trying to find someone.

Who said its a girlish book….
may be the character n story moves around the fairer sex but the wisdom and intentions are clear enough to focus on a social problem. And i believe society is made up of humans, not men or women.
Even the single man faces such circumstances….

The author has the literary skills of a 6th std kid. Absolutely trite and too weak on the script!

@Kiran: Well you are the first one I have come across to say something like that… :)
