Review: Aromas of China

“Aromas of China” is the new restaurant in Hyderabad city. It is owned by BJN Group and is located on top floor in the new City Center mall.

First let me tell you the good points: Ambience is nice and food is good.

Now the list starts for the bad points: Service is pathetic. This may be an understatement. To give you an example, I have visited this place twice in last two months and in both the occasions the service failed miserably on the score card. If I have to rate their service on a scale of  1 to 10 – 10 being the highest, then I shall rate them 2.

The first time I visited there for dinner, it took them 15 minutes to serve water and menu and that too after I spoke with manager of the restaurant. This was the beginning. To take my order it took them another 15 minutes. So first half-an hour was only for placing the order.

To make matters worse it was a maddening crowd there. It was more like a railway station then a restaurant. I think the customers out there were not to be blamed for that. They too were waiting for their meals, and in absence of that they had nothing left other than to use their mouth to chatter around. 

Listen further… if things were not bad enough then they had more spices to add to it. Restaurant was full of smoke which had made the place suffocating. In fact my eyes started burning.

I finished my dinner in quick 23 minutes. They later gave the feedback form, in which I gave my genuine feedback. Next day I got a call, apologizing for inconvenience caused, explaination about the smoke part was due to the AC failure and asked me to give them one more chance to serve me better.

So this is the reason of my second visit.  Last week I had to take out my team for lunch, and so we thought to go to Chinese joint.

AoC got the opportunity to improve their track record. But I guess they are not too concerned about that.  It again took 37 minutes for them to take the order. We spent nearly 3 hours for lunch. First two hours was for ordering and waiting for it to come. Guess what… they did not give the feedback form this time. :)

That was my last visit and I do not plan to visit that place again, unless I hear back some performance improvement.  Of course it is time of performance appraisals in my company:)

    I totally disagree with the comments made above. I dined at the Aromas of China restaurant at Hyderabad two weeks ago and the food was excellent (for a chinese restaurant in India that is). I called the chef out to compliment him on his preparation of lobster. Opposite the road is Hyderabad’s most opulent hotel, the Taj Krishna, where I was staying. Now the chinese restaurant there, the Golden Dragon, is truly dire. The service and food at the Aromas of China were of a high standard – the waiter could not have been any more attentive. It sounds very much as if the gentleman above is just being unecessarily fussy and perhaps has not travelled around the globe as much as I have.

    Polash, if you see the post date than u will realize that the review was posted more than one and a half year back, and this is a good enough time to correct the mistakes. Secondly, correct reviews like this makes a difference. I am sure u r not his relative:). And I don’t want to comment on how much you have travelled sround the globe.

    Nits, yes, thank you for that – I hadn’t picked up on the date of the review and no they’re not my relatives. I just find this review annoying and exaggerated (eyes burning from smoke etc) – this is a busy restaurant on the top floor of a shopping mall. What does he expect? If you want candlelight and roses, then Aromas of China is not for you but the food and service are excellent. If you do want candlelight and roses, try the Golden Dragon at the Taj Krishna where the food and service are crap. As for my extensive travelling, yes I’m a veteran with many experiences of fine dining! (the reviewer on the hand sounds like a novice).

    i visited this restaurant. the service is very poor..the hosts were very discourteous and made me wait for the table in an empty restaurant for more than 15 minutes…and when i pressed then declined to seat..not sure how these guys plan to be in the hospitality business with such discourteous service..the guy who claimed to be the manager was venu and was very inhospitable..i have also called and lodged complaint with the manager for the lack of customer orientation..and respect for customers time
