Indians on the roads

I am a safe driver, most of the time. Of course I love driving fast, on hills, on looped roads, on highways, in Jungle… but then I usually take care of driving rules & respect other people on the road. I don’t find it very difficult to do so.

I hate white indicas & quails running on the roads and I equally hate autos. They are the moving hazards. Autos are pain in the ***. The maximum speed they can achieve is say 42-45 kmph. These guys will usually drive in the right most lane – or in other word the fast lane, with another auto in the next lane, and thus blocking the complete road. At times one auto will be going at 40 kmph and other will try to overtake at 42 kmph…. And this race will continue till one of them has to stop for the passengers to get down or else. Now they are not the only people running around breaking all the traffic rules, The so called ‘Aam aadmi’ – the common man is equally responsible. You can see this ‘aam aadmi’ zipping past you in his scorpio or a santro or a bike or a cycle or else… sometimes with mobile in one hand and steering in other… crossing road or taking the turn without looking at the coming traffic. One think I have noticed about the bikers is that they are like flies as soon as they find an empty space on a red light they all will gather there like flies on sweets.

Another thing I have noticed, especially in Hyderabad, is that people do not fear the police and the traffic police are equally pathetic. Sometimes you can see few traffic cops on the side of the road chatting with each other, and you may have to honk continuously to get their attention. That doesn’t mean that all traffic cops are like that… there are always few exceptions. :)

The basic mentality of an Indian driver is why he should worry about taking care of traffic rules. It is always the other person’s responsibility to avoid an accident… The road on which he is driving is owned by his ‘taau’… so he is free to drive according to his wish.

We Indians are the worst drivers on the road… though I am not sure about in air or on/under water… :) It shall be the next wonder of the world if people start driving carefully on the roads in India.

I sometimes wish I should be in traffic police. :D

  • Indians are expert in zipping their vehicle haphazardly. The best roads which i can think of, are in delhi. Bangalore has got the worst roads, worst drivers, worst road conditions, worst traffic policemen 'wala'. Sometimes i wonder whether footpaths were made for people walking on the road or for the two wheeler drivers..
